On the 17th of July, Monday, the fourth competition day of the European Universities Badminton and Water Polo Championships in Miskolc, athletes and sports enthusiasts had no time to be bored. The water polo teams completed the group stage, accompanied by some storms. Among the best four teams, only Hungarian teams were found. The badminton players made good progress in the preliminary rounds, with three pairs and two individual players from Hungary reaching the top 8.
On Monday morning, the mixed doubles and men's singles competitions continued, along with the start of the women's singles, and men's and women's doubles events. Before the extensive series of matches, Mrs. Joó Melinda, the Secretary-General of the Hungarian Badminton Association, who was once an excellent player and multiple Hungarian champion, shared the following thoughts on the first days:
"A huge thanks to the University of Miskolc and all members of the organizing committee, as well as everyone involved! The organizing team led by Mr. Tamás Kása has created excellent conditions in every aspect here at the DVTK Arena. The representatives of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) present here also spoke with words of praise, stating that the arena is of top quality even by international standards. They believe that the facility could also host even larger international badminton tournaments in the future. We have no complaints about the level of competition. Four Hungarian teams participated, which is gratifying, and the 6th place for University of Pécs is very nice. The individual and doubles matches are also guaranteed to have a high level of play. To say the least, there are several British players who compete not only at the university level but also at the international level. And, of course, the Hungarians can also provide pleasant surprises."
